What is the mandibular torus?<\/h2>\n

As discussed above, the mandibular torus<\/strong> is a bony protrusion that is benign<\/strong> and appears inside the mouth. In short, it is the outgrowth of the bone structure and is found in the lower part of the mouth.<\/p>\n

Its size may vary, being small elevations<\/strong> or more prominent. <\/strong>It is found in the lingual area near the premolars and canines.<\/p>\n

Types of mandibular torus<\/h2>\n

There are two variants of this condition: mandibular torus and maxillary torus.<\/p>\n

Maxilar torus<\/h3>\n

When the torus is in the upper<\/strong> area near the palate<\/strong>, it is normal that it is located in the center of the top of the mouth. Its shape<\/strong> and size<\/strong> may vary, although it usually has the shape of a line that will eventually cross the entire palate.<\/p>\n

Mandibular torus<\/h3>\n

As we have explained, it appears on the bottom of the mouth<\/strong> and can be different shapes<\/strong> and sizes<\/strong>, being asymmetrical. Sometimes it is not homogeneous in shape except that they appear as small bumps which are distributed on the mucosa.<\/p>\n

Causes of mandibular torus<\/h2>\n

There are several causes for this condition in our jaws. Some of them are:<\/p>\n

Stress and bruxism: <\/strong>the mandibular torus and bruxism<\/strong><\/a> can go hand in hand, because if we clench our teeth on a recurring basis, we may be favoring disproportionate bone growth. Therefore, patients who have bruxism or live with constant stress are more likely to suffer from this condition.<\/p>\n

Blows: <\/strong>if the person suffering from this problem has received a blow<\/strong>, it will have caused the bone structure to be damaged<\/strong> and therefore hypertrophied<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Complications in the temporomandibular joint:<\/strong> these difficulties in the TMJ<\/strong> damage the oral cavity and bring a disease to the bone. Sometimes, the improper formation of this formation may be the main reason<\/strong> for the mandibular torus.<\/p>\n

Difficulties generated by the mandibular torus<\/h2>\n

The origin of some complications from this condition are as follows:<\/p>\n

Problems with speaking:<\/strong> if the torus is too large, the person suffering from it will have trouble speaking well. This is especially true when the condition is located in the lower part of the mouth<\/strong> and ends up preventing the tongue from functioning properly.<\/p>\n
