One of the questions when our children begin to change their baby teeth for the adult ones is: will they need orthodontics? All around us, more and more children wear braces and the truth is that children’s orthodontics saves time and money: aligning teeth in adulthood is much more expensive.
In addition, certain problems that are solved with orthodontics in the childhood require more complex surgical treatments when teeth are completely developed. However, it doesn’t mean that adults can’t wear braces too.
To learn more about the different types of orthodontics, how the treatments work and frequent questions regarding these, visit invisible orthodontics or braces.
When it comes to our children’s oral health, it’s important to choose the right professionals. At Gross Dentistas, we have pediatric orthodontic specialists in Malaga and Torremolinos.
From the first consultation, we carefully evaluate your child’s dental condition and create an individualized treatment plan. Our goal is to achieve a healthy and beautiful smile by correcting dental alignment accurately and efficiently.
We understand that children may feel anxious or uncomfortable about the orthodontic process. At Gross Dentistas, we strive to create a warm and welcoming environment so they feel safe and comfortable during their visits. Our pediatric orthodontic dentists in Malaga and Torremolinos have years of experience, so they know how to work with children.
We also value education and the active participation of children in their own orthodontic treatment. We explain the process and responsibilities in a clear and understandable way. This helps children feel empowered and motivated to follow directions, which in turn contributes to successful treatment.
Early detection of orthodontic needs in children is critical to ensuring successful treatment and minimizing future problems. Although each case is unique, there are signs and factors that may indicate the need for orthodontic treatment in children.
If teeth are not aligned properly, whether they are crooked, shifted, or unevenly spaced, orthodontics may be required to correct the alignment.

Additionally to the orthodontic process, there are other devices such as chin rests, palatal expanders, facemasks… that are used to achieve a correct position of the jaws and other complementary actions to orthodontic treatment. Our doctor will study your child’s case and if it is necessary to use any of these treatments. Sometimes it is necessary to use these appliances to correct the position of the jaw, to widen the palate…

Each case is different, but as a general rule, orthodontics is recommended between 11 and 13 years of age in girls and between 12 and 14 in boys. Of course, orthodontics is usually the last step in a series of visits to the pediatric dentist.
Depending on their problem, many children need previously another type of appliance: a fixed or removable dental expander, removable appliances to correct maxillary postures, other preventatives to guide the teeth to their correct position…
For this reason, and although it is necessary to visit the dentist from the age of two, we should think about orthodontic treatments from the age of six or seven. That is, when the adult teeth begin to appear.
It is normal that you worry about this aspect, but we are here to reassure you. At Gross Dentistas, our orthodontist, Concha Gross, treats children with orthodontics daily.
Our goal is that children enjoy coming to the dentist, so there is no need to worry: with her, the process is easy and painless. Depending on the type of orthodontics the child needs, the frequency of the visits will vary.
In these visits, the child may refer possible discomfort (always minimal) that will be reversed with the corresponding adjustments.
Have you already seen if your child meets any of the symptoms that we have mentioned? If so, and you want to put your child’s orthodontics in our hands, visit us without obligation. The first consultation is completely free.
